Visitors to the UK
The RAF occasionally hosts visiting military aircraft, usually for the purposes of collaborative training with the RAF, or to take part in larger NATO exercises. In recent years training, transport and front line aircraft, both fixed wing and rotary, from the Armée de l'air, the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNAF), the Air Component of the Belgium Armed Forces, the Lufwaffe (German Airforce), Marineflieger (German Navy), the USAFE, from southern Germany, and Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF), have been observed using UK low flying areas. Some visits are over an extended period whilst others could be for a few hours only.
In many cases prior public notice is not given of any visiting military aircraft so catching them on camera low level is often a bonus. Indeed, in May 2009 Michael Leek was one of only two photographers to capture two Armée de l'air Mirage F1 fighter aircraft going low level through Glen Tilt, near Blair Atholl.
